30 for 30: This Was The XFL is now archived on the WatchESPN app for viewers to watch on-demand.
The 1 hour 20 minute documentary takes a look at the partnership between WWE and NBC on the short-lived XFL venture, which had its first kick off on February 3, 2001.
It was produced by Charlie Ebersol, the son of Dick Ebersol, who was the NBC Sport chief at the time and a big friend of Vince McMahon. Vince launched the league, and NBC bought 50% of it six weeks later, giving McMahon and the XFL a television network to broadcast games.
Unfortunately, bad football and other issues spelled the demise of the XFL after one season and both WWE and NBC walked away with losing millions of dollars.
All the key people who were part of the league, including Ebersol, McMahon and other executives, reporters, and those who worked in making the XFL a reality were interviewed extensively for the documentary.
The show did a total of 917,000 viewers on Thursday night.
