In an interview with the New York Post, the number one contender for the Smackdown Women’s title Alexa Bliss discussed the fear of her career being over after a couple of concussions sidelined her for several months.
Bliss said that after the second concussion, she was worried of not being able to get back in the ring. “There’s so many different types of concussions and I didn’t know that at the time. Each one had to be treated differently and the fact that I didn’t know what was going on with my brain and didn’t know until I saw the concussion specialist, it made me very scared,” Bliss said.
Bliss traveled to Pittsburgh to see concussion expert Dr. Michael “Micky” Collins to get a better explanation of what’s going on with her brain and also talked with Daniel Bryan about the subject.
“The stuff that he [Dr. Collins] taught me about concussions and injury has been so mind opening and mind blowing, actually,” Bliss said. “It made me feel like for the first time that I actually was in control of my own injury and actually well aware of what was going on in my brain and it made me feel so much better about returning to the ring because concussions are a scary thing.
The former champ was relieved to hear that she could make a full recovery and with doctors being certain of that, made her feel much better. She noted that when she was not able to work, she was driving herself a little bit crazy but was thankful that she got to do a lot of things that she otherwise wouldn’t have done if she didn’t have the time off.
Bliss also briefly touched the trip to Saudi Arabia and how they eventually were not allowed to wrestle during Super ShowDown. “One person came up to me during the show, shook my hand and thanked us for being there and said, ‘We really hope to see you guys have a match here soon,’“ Bliss said. “So it’s definitely something that would be embraced, I feel.”
