Huge wrestling fan and Arrow star Stephen Amell has signed a deal to star in a new television series titled Heels, an hourlong drama set in the outrageous world of independent professional wrestling. The show, according to Deadline.com, will air on Start and the network has given the green light for an eight-episode order.
Set in a close-knit Georgia community, Heels follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play the heel (Amell). But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.
Amell will play the role of Jack Spade who wrestles for Duffy Wrestling Association. Outside the ring, Spade is a hard-working owner, husband, and father trying to make ends meet while chasing his impossible dreams.
Heels is produced by Lionsgate TV in association with Paramount TV. It’s written by Michael Waldron with Mike O’Malley set as showrunner. Along with Waldron and O’Malley, Julie Yorn, Chris Donnelly and Patrick Walmsley will also serve as executive producers.
Following the publication of the news, Amell tweeted to his good friend Cody Rhodes asking him if he wants to help out create a television show.
