In an article on Bloomberg which profiled Tony Khan and AEW, it was revealed that AEW is considering starting its own streaming service, “likely through a deal with its broadcast partner, Warner Bros. Discovery Inc.”
There were rumors in the past that AEW would be added to HBO MAX but that never transpired and now HBO MAX is merging with Discovery+. A stand alone service similar to the original WWE Network would give AEW control over its content but it would obviously be limited when it comes to the service.
The WWE Network as a stand alone was never profitable for WWE even with an average of 1.5 million subscribers so it’s safe to say that an AEW streaming service on its own would likely suffer big time.
With its introduction in late 2019, AEW now has enough hours to be on a streaming service, especially when you take into consideration that they can also add the Ring of Honor tape library as well.
