The Invasion name which was being used to promote next week’s NXT and TNA special on The CW has been changed to Showdown.
The change was made official last night on NXT.
The name and date coincided with the Hamas attacks on Israel of October 7, 2023 which killed over 1,000 people and kickstarted the new war in the Middle East.
With the unfortunate parallels, WWE decided to avoid further scrutiny and change the name to Showdown. The Showdown logo uses the same font and colors of the Invasion logo, with a large red W instead of a V.
A new trademark application was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the new name yesterday.
