WWE Superstar Darren Young criticised WWE for running live events in Abu Dhabi since the UAE has a harsh stance against homosexuality.
Using Twitter, Young wrote, “My freedom of speech is gone. Gone but never forgotten. I feel like no one has my back and it upsets me. The struggle is real. I’m human.” He later deleted the tweets which he posted earlier today just after Midnight EST.
Young is the first openly gay active WWE Superstar and WWE supported him when he came out during a video interview with TMZ in Los Angeles during the SummerSlam weekend a couple of years ago.
In a statement issued to PWInsider.com, WWE said that they cannot change cultures and laws around the world and that’s why they were not sending Fred Rosser – Young’s real name – to the tour in UAE.
“WWE does not discriminate against individuals regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation, and we continue to proudly support Fred Rosser for being open about his sexuality.”
WWE also said that they fully support his right to express his views on personal social media accounts rather than WWE’s corporate platforms.
