The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission approved the WWE Network application from Rogers this past week that will enable the broadcaster to sell the Network to other cable companies in the country.
As of now, the WWE Network in Canada is only available to Rogers subscribers and is not accessible through over-the-top devices like the rest of the world. Rogers signed a 10 year deal for the Network in Canada.
The application called for the addition of the Network to the list of non-Canadian programming services authorized for distribution. In the application, Rogers confirmed that the Network service would broadcast the same content as that broadcast by the WWE Network in the United States and that the service would complement its other offerings.
Without the CRTC adding the WWE Network to the non-Canadian programming services list, Rodgers would have been unable to negotiate with other cable providers to make the Network available throughout the whole of Canada.
