Goldberg has been very very busy on Twitter over the past 24 hours ever since WWE announced that he will be a major part of the WWE 2K17 video game to be released this Fall.
Before the commercial aired, Goldberg wrote, “Wait for it…” and then tweeted “#IMNEXT!” after the commercial played. The former champ retweeted several comments from fans as well as official WWE accounts.
Cesaro said that he’s excited that Goldberg is “swinging by” and invited him to an uppercut party, a tweet that was welcomed by Goldberg himself who replied, “On my way.” Mark Henry also said that it’s awesome that Goldberg will be part of the game, with Goldberg thanking him and everyone else for their support. “Very humbling,” Goldberg said.
Meanwhile an “easter egg” popped up in the trailer and some fans who are very attentive to detail noticed the reflection of the sign “Suplex City” in the cop car’s window as Goldberg was being driven away. The Suplex City sign shows up at 1:09 of the trailer for one second.
Variety is reporting that Netflix has greenlit “G.L.O.W.,” a comedy series based on the 1980’s female wrestling league with the same name – Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. The streaming company has ordered 10 episodes for the series with no premiere date, production date or casting announced yet.
Inspired by the real story behind the wrestlers, the series will be the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers. “G.L.O.W.” will be set in Los Angeles and is described as showcasing “big hair and body slams.”
The new series is an extension of the 2011 documentary GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling which is available now on Netflix.
The series will be exec produced by Jenji Kohan, the woman behind the Netflix original series Orange Is The New Black. Joining her from OITNB is Tara Herrmann who will also serve as executive producer while Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie) will serve as showrunners. They are also the co-creators of the series.
Cody Rhodes can chalk one off from his bucket list as his first opponent in his post-WWE career will be none other than former WWE and TNA champion Kurt Angle.
The two will be main eventing the Wrestling Under The Stars event promoted by Northeast Wrestling on Saturday, August 27 at the Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, New York. This will be an open-air event held inside a baseball park.
Yesterday in a post on his Facebook page, Kurt Angle said that he doesn’t believe that wrestling has an identity anymore. He said the sport needs something to ignite the fans again in addition to the current young array of talent. “It’s time to lead the charge. Stay tuned,” Angle wrote.
Once again WWE is having an open day at the WWE Performance Center on July 25 with tickets going for $1,499 each. The expensive tour does have some very cool things attached to it but only a limited number of fans can enjoy it…and probably afford it.
The day starts with a breakfast with NXT Superstars and then lunch with both meals included. The coaching staff will host a Q&A and orientation session followed by a Q&A and autograph session with NXT Superstars. After signing a “one-day WWE booking contract,” you will be granted admission to a private NXT Live Event at the WWE Performance Center that you will help produce, manage and watch alongside your favorite NXT Superstars.
Also included are an all-access tour of the WWE Performance Center, an inside look at a private NXT Training Session, learn the ropes during a promo class, then create your very own promo video, and create your very own entrance as NXT Superstars cheer you on.
After the whole experience is over, you will get to go home with a commemorative WWE Performance Center: All Access Credential, WWE Performance Center Gift Bag, limited edition event chair pre-signed by NXT Superstars, WWE Performance Center: All Access Highlight Reel, your personal promo video, and professional photos which are taken throughout the day.
Space is extremely limited and will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can purchase tickets at NXTTickets.com.
Pre-ordering WWE 2K17 will not only get you the playable character of Goldberg but also two arenas – WCW Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc – while Goldberg will be available in his WCW and WWE personas.
“After 12 years away from the business, I’m incredibly honored to work with WWE and 2K while following in the footsteps of such greats as Ultimate Warrior, Sting and Arnold Schwarzenegger,” said Goldberg. “My son was a big part of this coming together, and I can’t wait for him to see his dad kicking ass in a WWE ring through the magic of video games. I encountered the likes of The Rock, Triple H, Brock Lesnar and Ric Flair during my WWE career, and now through WWE 2K17, I’ll be taking on the biggest and baddest Superstars of today – showing them once and for all that I am still ‘Da Man!’”
Goldberg last appeared in a WWE ring and on WWE television in 2004 at WrestleMania XX in Madison Square Garden, winning his match against Brock Lesnar. Both men disappeared from WWE after that and the fans in New York let them know what they thought about it.
“Goldberg’s return to WWE action through two WWE 2K17 playable characters, along with the WCW Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc arenas, collectively delivers a unique opportunity to experience one of WWE’s true living legends,” said Chris Snyder, Vice President of Marketing at 2K. “Fans can now relive many of their favorite Goldberg moments, as well as create brand new ones, as they decide ‘Who’s Next?’ in the virtual ring.”
Developed collaboratively by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, WWE 2K17 is currently scheduled for worldwide release on the PS4 and PS3 systems, Xbox One and Xbox 360 in October 2016.
The #Hatch social media campaign which started mid last week and unveiled tonight ended up being a WWE 2K17 commercial with a surprise: Goldberg.
The commercial involves a bunch of Sheriff deputies first driving and then walking through the woods at night with their flashlights on. They find the hatch and wire it up with explosives and after they donate, the door flies away and a shadow of Goldberg is revealed among the smoke, similar to his usual entrance.
His theme song then kicks in and out walks the former WCW and World Heavyweight champion, escorted by the same Sheriff deputies who found him.
“Pre-order and play as Goldberg,” the commercial then shows before it cuts to Goldberg sitting in the car with sirens on.
What is interesting is that when 2K did this before – first with the Ultimate Warrior and then Sting – both of them actually ended up in the WWE. Goldberg and WWE are not on the best of terms and is mostly Goldberg who did not want to be associated with the company anymore. He did however say multiple times that he would like to perform one more time so his son can see him wrestle live.
If this first baby step leads to somewhere remains to be seen but at least it’s a step.
You can see the commercial below.
The popular Fifth Harmony group – who sang America The Beautiful at WrestleMania 32 – were on the NBC TODAY show with John Cena earlier today and gave the former WWE champion some pointers on how to booty-pop.
All five, sporting knee-high boots, got down to show Cena how to, well, shake that ass and Cena didn’t mind shaking it. “ESPYs get ready,” Cena said. “My booty at the very least is,” he added.
Cena also thanked the group for singing at WrestleMania and they said it was the biggest crowd they have ever performed in front of.
You can see the video of this as well as two others from Cena’s stint on the TODAY show earlier below.

Just in case you have been living under a rock, John Cena will be making his long-awaited return on Raw tonight, his first Raw appearance since the end of December.
The former champion underwent shoulder surgery in early January and have been out of action ever since. Apart from an appearance at the Hall of Fame and a cameo at WrestleMania where he helped The Rock fend off the Wyatt Family, Cena has remained away from the WWE world.
Prior to his return in mid December, Cena had been out for two months while filming the American Grit television show for FOX so apart from the two weeks after his return he’s been pretty much away from WWE since the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view in October.
It will be a busy day for John, a day he called “ambitious” as first he will be on NBC’s TODAY Show this morning in New York and will then fly to Green Bay, Wisconsin for Raw.
